HB 509 Questions?
As of 3-1-23, there is a new House Bill (52) that will allow Ohio Approved CE sites to continue. The bill was drafted by the same representatives who drafted 509. After hearing from all of the stakeholders they realized they needed to make things right. It is on a fast track. Stay tuned...
As of 3-22-23 HB 52 has passed the Ohio House and is in Senate committee. Follow this link for information on HB 52. Here is the title of the bill and what it does.
"To amend sections 505.38, 737.22, 4765.10, 4765.11, 4765.15, 4765.16, 4765.17, 4765.18, 4765.22, 4765.23, 4765.24, 4765.29, 4765.30, 4765.31, 4765.49, 4765.50, and 4765.55 of the Revised Code to restore law related to emergency medical services training and continuing education programs and EMS and fire instructor certification, to amend the versions of sections 4765.10, 4765.11, 4765.30, and 4765.55 of the Revised Code that are scheduled to take effect on December 29, 2023, to continue the changes on and after that date, and to declare an emergency."
If HB 52 fails to pass, nothing will happen at all until ODPS writes the new rules which will take 9-12 months minimum, by which time we will have renewed for at least another 3 years. There is HUGE opposition to this and the expectation is that there will be revisions to continue to recognize CE sites.
However, in case, CSUtest.com is prepared for the transition. Worst case, we have a contract to issue CE through Auburn #302 OR we are CAPCE accredited on our own. As you see, we are here to stay.
